Garden of Australian Dreams

The feature from the Garden of Australian Dreams I have chosen is the Dream House. It appeals to me because it reminds me of so many different things such a a house in the north suburbs of Sydney on a cliff top or a David Hockney artwork. I appreciate the concept that every Australian dreams of having a beautiful big house with a pool, 2.5 kids, a dog and a mortgage. This part of the garden references the Great Australian Dream of the nuclear family. Richard Weller included this in the garden as a part of Australia's history and colonisation and progress of western settlement. It's location next to the gum trees signifies how far Australia has come since it's discovery by Captain Cook and how most Australian's aspire to have the perfect/typical family life. The landscape architecture of the GOAD is considered postmodern because it references many different parts of Australian history and other artists as a form of apropriation. eg. jackson pollock's blue poles.
